Wildflower Project September 2021

I designed the Wildflower project for my regular Highbury House class to work on via email and small youtube video clips during our second major covid lockdown in August 2021. I also offered it free of charge to all members of the Northern North Island Guilds as almost all of them were locked down for at least 12 weeks, from August through to November

It needed to be a project that was simple enough for all levels, yet with enough content to make it satisfying to stitch. It also had to be able to be stitched with whatever was in their stashes at home as all shops were shut for at least 10 weeks, and were not permitted to even post out supplies purchased online for a lot of that time.  Any firm fabric could be used and it needed 7 stranded cotton colours - the colour choice was up to the individual, but I did give some guidance in my instructions. It could also be worked  in two sizes from the same instructions.

Including my class, more than 80 people  were emailed the instructions each Friday for 8 weeks. They could follow it exactly or add their own flourishes - which many have done, and I love to see their creativity and ingenuity!

I have had the pleasure of seeing many beautiful, colourful, and unique wildflower gardens finished, and was happy to be able to provide something creative to look forward to, while everyone was stuck at home, and unable to go to their usual stitching groups (well actually unable to go anywhere except to the supermarket or the doctor!).   Below are just some of the wonderful gardens that have been completed.

If you would like to use this project for a not for profit group, or to support people stuck at home for extended periods, or even for instructing beginners in your stitching groups, please get in touch.  I am happy for it to be used for non-commercial purposes.
